MHC85 TO HOST THE HOUSE of GUCCI ZOOM BOOK DISCUSSION WITH AUTHOR SARA GAY FORDEN

High Fashion…High Finance…Heart-Rending

The Mount Holyoke College Class of 1985 is delighted to present an exclusive Zoom bookclub discussion with Sara Gay Forden MHC’82, author of The House of Gucci on Wednesday, October 27th at 8pm. Zoom details will follow on the MHC85 website, class email and social media.

The “sensational story of murder, madness, glamour and greed” covers the true tale of the 1995 murder of Maurizio Gucci, heir to one of the most iconic fashion family dynasties. His ex-wife, Patrizia Martinelli, was sentenced to 29 years in prison for ordering the hit.

Sara sat in the front row of the Italian fashion industry at that time, serving as Milan bureau chief for Women’s Wear Daily. After years of meticulous research and interviews, her book was published in 2001. And as you’d expect of a Mount Holyoke grad, she is articulate, observant, funny and a wealth of information on history, fashion, and the Gucci family business that’s fascinated people for 100 years from inception to family turmoil to the resurgence of the brand under Tom Ford.

Her engrossing story is a soon-to-be-released major motion picture from director Ridley Scott, starring Lady Gaga as Patrizia and Adam Driver as the doomed Gucci scion.

Join our chat with Sara to talk about her book, answer questions, and get the inside scoop on the movie, set for release in November. Reading the book is not mandatory, but is strongly encouraged for context. Pre-order the new movie tie-in edition from your favorite local bookseller or The Odyssey; click here for earlier editions.
