Virtual Event | 7:00-8:00pm ET
Event Description: On Wednesday, November 17 at 7 p.m. the Hudson Library & Historical Society will host a live virtual streaming event with Sara Gay Forden, author of The House of Gucci: Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed. Called “racy, fast-paced [and] hard to put down” by International Herald Tribune, this book has been made into a soon to be released motion picture starring Lady Gaga. Forden will be in conversation with award-winning Journalist Teri Agins, who covered fashion for The Wall Street Journal for many years and is the author of two books on fashion.
On March 27, 1995, Maurizio Gucci, heir to the fabulous fashion dynasty, was slain on the steps to his office by an unknown gunman. Two years later, Milan’s chief of police arrested Gucci’s ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani, for allegedly hiring a hitman to murder him. But did she? The Gucci story is one of glitz, glamour, and intrigue—a chronicle of the rise, near fall, and subsequent resurgence of a fashion dynasty.
Forden covered the Italian fashion industry from Milan for more than 15 years, chronicling the explosion of labels including Gucci, Armani, Versace, Prada and Ferragamo from family ateliers into mega brands. She is now based in Washington, D.C. with Bloomberg News, leading a team that covers the challenges faced by big technology companies such as Amazon, Facebook and Google.
Agins is an award-winning journalist, lecturer, consultant, and former senior special writer at The Wall Street Journal where she developed the paper’s fashion industry beat which she covered for more than 25 years. She is the author of Hijacking the Runway: How Celebrities are Stealing the Spotlight from Fashion Designers and The End of Fashion: How Marketing Changed the Clothing Business Forever.
