House of Gucci debuts in cinemas in the U.S.
House of Gucci is inspired by the family empire behind the Italian fashion house of Gucci. Spanning three decades of love, betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately murder, the film reveals what a name means, what it's worth, and how far a family will go for control.

ZOOM BOOK DISCUSSION WITH AUTHOR SARA GAY FORDEN
High Fashion…High Finance…Heart-Rending
The Mount Holyoke College Class of 1985 is delighted to present an exclusive Zoom bookclub discussion with Sara Gay Forden MHC’82, author of The House of Gucci on Wednesday, October 27th at 8pm. Zoom details will follow on the MHC85 website, class email and social media.
The “sensational story of murder, madness, glamour and greed” covers the true tale of the 1995 murder of Maurizio Gucci, heir to one of the most iconic fashion family dynasties. His ex-wife, Patrizia Martinelli, was sentenced to 29 years in prison for ordering the hit.
Sara sat in the front row of the Italian fashion industry at that time, serving as Milan bureau chief for Women’s Wear Daily. After years of meticulous research and interviews, her book was published in 2001. And as you’d expect of a Mount Holyoke grad, she is articulate, observant, funny and a wealth of information on history, fashion, and the Gucci family business that’s fascinated people for 100 years from inception to family turmoil to the resurgence of the brand under Tom Ford.
Her engrossing story is a soon-to-be-released major motion picture from director Ridley Scott, starring Lady Gaga as Patrizia and Adam Driver as the doomed Gucci scion.
Join our chat with Sara to talk about her book, answer questions, and get the inside scoop on the movie, set for release in November. Reading the book is not mandatory, but is strongly encouraged for context. Pre-order the new movie tie-in edition from your favorite local bookseller or The Odyssey; click here for earlier editions.
Sara visits Gucci Galleria (Florence)
The House created the Gucci Garden inside the historic Palazzo della Mercanzia, which housed the Gucci Museo. Conceived by creative director Alessandro Michele, the space features a store with one-of-a-kind items, the Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura — a restaurant created by the three-Michelin-star chef — and the Gucci Garden Galleria exhibition rooms curated by critic Maria Luisa Frisa.
Divided into a series of themed rooms, the Gucci Garden Galleria narrates the House’s new vision while celebrating the archives including old advertising campaigns, artisans’ images and retro objects.
Gucci fashion event (Milan)
Gucci holds a fashion event during Milan fashion week as it celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Founded in Florence in 1921, the House is known for eclectic and contemporary styles that represent the pinnacle of Italian craftsmanship, attention to detail and imaginative design.
Gucci is striving to redefine Luxury for the 21st century, an ambition that since 2015 has been led by the brand’s Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, and its CEO, Marco Bizzarri. Colorful, romantic, poetic and magical, Michele’s vision has met with critical acclaim while also creating an authentic emotional bond with younger customers.
Michele’s multifaceted approach is inspired by cultural and fashion history in a unique blend of dandyism with the Italian Renaissance, a gothic aesthetic and a DIY punk attitude. Now more than ever, charisma, innovation and a commitment to progress let Gucci take a radically modern approach to fashion.
